The Mist

I don't know if anyone will read this, but I have to write it down. I have to tell someone what happened to me and my friends. Maybe it will help me make sense of it, or maybe it will just make me go crazy. But I can't keep it inside anymore.

It all started two weeks ago, when we decided to go camping in the woods. There were six of us: me, Jake, Lisa, Matt, Amy and Sam. We had been friends since high school, and we wanted to have one last adventure before we went our separate ways for college. We packed our tents, sleeping bags, food, drinks and some games. We were ready for a fun weekend in nature.

We drove for about three hours until we reached the campsite. It was a secluded spot by a lake, surrounded by tall trees. We set up our tents and started a fire. We roasted marshmallows, told stories and played cards. It was getting dark, and we decided to call it a night. We crawled into our tents and fell asleep.

I don't know what time it was when I woke up, but I remember feeling a cold breeze on my face. I opened my eyes and saw that the tent flap was open. I thought maybe Jake had gone out to pee or something, so I got up and looked outside. What I saw made me freeze in horror.

There was a thick mist covering the whole campsite. It was so dense that I could barely see anything beyond a few feet. It looked like something out of a horror movie. I felt a chill run down my spine. Where was Jake? Where were the others? I called out his name, but there was no answer. I grabbed a flashlight and stepped out of the tent.

The mist was cold and wet on my skin. It smelled like rotten eggs. I shivered and walked towards the fire pit, hoping to find Jake there. But there was no one there. The fire was out, and the ashes were cold. I felt a surge of panic. Where did they go? Did they leave me behind? Did something happen to them?

I ran towards the other tents, shining my flashlight on them. They were all empty. There was no sign of Lisa, Matt, Amy or Sam. Their sleeping bags were still inside, but they were gone. I felt tears sting my eyes. What was going on? Where were they?

I heard a scream.

It came from the direction of the lake. It sounded like Lisa's voice. It was full of terror and pain. I ran towards it, hoping to find her alive. But when I reached the shore, I saw something that made me wish I was dead.

There was a huge creature emerging from the water. It looked like a cross between a snake and an octopus, with scales, tentacles and teeth. It had Lisa in its grip, squeezing her body until blood spurted out of her mouth. She was still screaming, but her voice was getting weaker by the second.

I wanted to help her, but I couldn't move. I was paralyzed with fear. The creature noticed me and turned its head towards me. It had glowing red eyes that pierced through the mist. It opened its mouth and let out a roar that shook the ground.

It dropped Lisa's lifeless body and lunged at me.

I turned around and ran for my life.

I don't know how long I ran, or where I went. The mist was everywhere, blocking my vision and sense of direction. I tripped over roots and rocks, scraping my knees and elbows. I heard the creature behind me, getting closer and closer.

I reached a clearing in the woods, where there was a small cabin. I didn't know who lived there, or if anyone did at all. But it was my only chance of survival. I ran towards it, hoping to find a door or a window that I could break into.

But before I could get there, something grabbed my leg.

It was one of the creature's tentacles.

It wrapped around my ankle and pulled me back into the mist.

I screamed as loud as I could.

But no one heard me.

No one came to save me.

No one ever found me.
