The Curse of Si Tanggang
Si Tanggang was a poor fisherman who lived in a small village with his wife and mother. He worked hard every day to provide for his family, but he was not happy with his life. He dreamed of becoming rich and powerful, and he prayed to God for a miracle.
One day, his prayers were answered. A merchant ship arrived at the shore, and the captain offered to take Si Tanggang on board as a sailor. Si Tanggang agreed, hoping to see the world and make his fortune. He bid farewell to his wife and mother, promising to return soon.
Si Tanggang sailed across the seas, visiting many lands and learning new skills. He became a successful trader, amassing wealth and fame. He married a princess from a foreign kingdom, and forgot about his humble origins. He never wrote to his wife and mother, nor did he send them any money.
Years passed, and Si Tanggang decided to visit his homeland. He arrived with a grand entourage, wearing fine clothes and jewels. He anchored his ship near his old village, and ordered his men to prepare a feast on board.
His wife and mother heard about his return, and they were overjoyed. They ran to the shore, hoping to embrace him and share his happiness. But when they saw him, they did not recognize him. He looked so different from the poor fisherman they knew.
They approached him timidly, calling out his name. But he denied knowing them, and scorned them for their poverty and filth. He told them to leave him alone, and never bother him again.
His wife and mother were heartbroken. They begged him to remember his past, and to show them some kindness. But he refused, and ordered his men to drive them away.
At that moment, a thunderstorm broke out. The sky turned dark, and lightning flashed. A voice boomed from above, saying:
"Si Tanggang, you have sinned against your own flesh and blood. You have forgotten your roots, and betrayed your family. You have become arrogant and ungrateful, and you have angered God. For your punishment, you shall be turned into stone, along with your ship and your men. You shall remain as a monument of your folly, for all to see."
Si Tanggang realized his mistake, but it was too late. He felt his body stiffen, and his skin harden. He tried to speak, but no words came out. He looked around, and saw his ship and his men also turning into stone.
He cried out in despair, but no one heard him. He was doomed to spend eternity as a rock in the sea.
The end.
