The Loop
It was a dark and stormy night. My husband and I were driving back from a weekend getaway in the countryside. We had taken a scenic route that was supposed to be faster than the highway, but we soon regretted it. The road was narrow, winding and full of potholes. The rain was pouring down so hard that we could barely see anything in front of us. The radio was playing some oldies station, but the signal was weak and full of static.
We had been driving for hours and we were getting tired and hungry. We hoped to find a motel or a diner along the way, but we saw nothing but trees and fields. We started to wonder if we had taken a wrong turn somewhere, but there were no signs or landmarks to guide us. We decided to keep going until we reached the next town, hoping that it would be soon.
But it never came.
We drove and drove, but the road seemed to go on forever. We passed the same farmhouses, the same barns, the same bridges over and over again. It was like we were stuck in a loop, doomed to repeat the same journey endlessly. We checked our GPS, but it showed no signal. We tried to call someone, but our phones had no service. We were completely isolated and lost.
We started to panic. We wondered if this was some kind of prank or a trap. We wondered if someone was watching us or following us. We wondered if we would ever get out of this nightmare.
And then we heard it.
A woman's voice.
It came from the radio, cutting through the static. It was faint at first, but then it grew louder and clearer. It sounded like she was crying or screaming for help.
"Please...please...someone help me...I'm trapped...I can't get out...please..."
We were shocked and terrified. Who was she? Where was she? How did she get on the radio? Was she in trouble? Was she in danger?
We tried to talk to her, to ask her who she was and where she was. But she didn't seem to hear us. She just kept repeating the same words over and over again.
"Please...please...someone help me...I'm trapped...I can't get out...please..."
We looked at each other, not knowing what to do. Should we try to find her? Should we ignore her? Should we turn off the radio?
We decided to try to find her. Maybe she was nearby, maybe she was on the same road as us, maybe she needed our help. Maybe she could help us too.
We turned up the volume of the radio, hoping to hear some clues or directions from her voice. But there were none. She just kept crying and pleading for help.
"Please...please...someone help me...I'm trapped...I can't get out...please..."
We drove faster, scanning the road for any signs of life or movement. But there were none. We saw nothing but trees and fields and darkness.
We drove and drove, but we never found her.
We never found anyone.
We never found anything.
We never found a way out.
